Drawing from generations of experience and an ideal climate for ripening classical winegrapes, Virginia and Maryland offer a wonderful variety of wineries for your guests to enjoy. The father of American wine never dared to dream that in 2005 Virginia would be home to over 90 wineries, including 12 new ones, each with its own distinct character. Maryland's family of wineries is growing, with 16 vineyards currently in operation and four more opening soon. Your guests can spend a leisurely afternoon in the country, just 60-90 minutes from downtown Washington.
